Foundation for Community Development Commodity Exchange (FCDACX)

Amid the inefficiency and ineffectiveness of the formal market systems which are plaguing the Cameroonian society, especially for farmers and buyers of commodities both locally and internationally. FCDA has taken as an initiative to institute an ecosystem with the integration of multiple stakeholders under one course to improve on this scheme through the institution of a Commodity exchange model. This will ensure that buyers and sellers have real time information on market prices, seeds and fertilizers, trends, trading floor and other statistical data as well as warehousing and mobile services with effective and efficient regulatory systems.

Problems were identified following research conducted by the ambitious Cofounders and Honorary Members and they came up with recommendations and proposed functional framework which is stated on this document.

  1. Inadequate flow of information to buyers and sellers due to lack of data.
  2. Lack of a centralized system where buyers and sellers could meet and also inadequate utilization of the micro economic dynamics on demand and supply.
  3. Lack of integration and functioning of an ecosystem which constitutes a buying and selling platform, warehousing units, financial institutions, transformation units, legal and electronic board systems.
  4. Lack of real time information on market prices, investment funds, seeds, fertilizers, markets, news and statistical trend analysis.
  5. Deplorable farm to market roads.
  6. Global Food panicking, scarcity and food insecurity as the global population will double by 2050.
  7. High level youth unemployment.
  8. Underproduction for commercialization as farmers lack education on large scale organic production.
  9. Bureaucracy characterized with surging bribery and corruption.
  10. Lack of trust and standards as well as failure to meet up with compliance issues.
  11. Ageing population involved in agriculture which averages 50 years.
  12. Inadequate partnership between Private/ Public and NGO and international bodies.
  13. Slow growth pace in the local communities in terms of infrastructures, institutions and Human Development.
